Rental Agreement

This is the same agreement shown for signature before rental payment. Your booking supplies the unit, owner, dates, times and price. Agreement version: 2026-10-v4.

• Spare Watts LLC (Indiana) operates the Spare Watts marketplace and processes your payment; the generator is provided by an independent owner listed on your booking, not by Spare Watts LLC.
• Run fuel-powered generators outdoors only, at least 20 feet from any building, with the exhaust pointed away from doors, windows and vents. Battery power stations do not produce exhaust; follow the manufacturer’s instructions and keep them dry.
• Never connect the generator to a home’s wiring unless a transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician is in place.
• Fuel-powered units start with a separately charged prepaid full tank: regional weekly EIA gasoline price plus $1 per gallon, multiplied by the tank size and rounded up to $0.50. Return at any fuel level with no refill fees or return fuel adjustment. For advance deposit bookings, fuel is estimated at booking and finalized from the latest weekly EIA price at the 9am local balance charge the day before pickup, with no cap on increases or decreases. For pay-in-full bookings, fuel is final at booking. Battery units are delivered fully charged and may be returned at any charge level; no fuel charge applies.
• Rental days are 24-hour periods from your chosen pickup time to your chosen return time. Rentals up to 12 hours plus the one-hour grace use the half-day rate shown before payment: default 75% of the day rate, rounded up to $0.50. Longer rentals use normal daily and weekly pricing. The protection waiver is 12% of rental; Indiana sales tax is 7% on taxable items, with applicable local tax elsewhere. Return by the due time shown on your booking; late fees start one hour after it.
• For pickup more than 48 hours after booking, pay one day’s rental amount (the half-day amount for half-day rentals) plus its tax now; your remaining balance is charged to your saved card at 9am in the unit’s local time zone the day before pickup. Pickup within 48 hours is paid in full. Your PIN stays locked until fully paid. If your balance fails, update your card using your booking link. An unpaid balance two hours before pickup cancels the booking and retains the deposit.
• Approved extensions charge the difference in whole-rental pricing, plus a 12% damage waiver on added rental and applicable sales tax, to your saved card. No extra fuel tank is charged.
• The first overdue period on a half-day rental charges the one-day rental rate minus the half-day rental already paid, plus a 12% damage waiver and applicable tax on that difference. Further overdue periods follow the existing incremental weekly-block and capped multi-day rental rates, plus tax. Other late rentals use those same incremental rates. No additional fuel tank is charged.
• Damage beyond the damage waiver, theft or non-return is charged to your card on file, up to the unit’s replacement value.
• The damage waiver covers accidental damage. It does not cover misuse or negligence, including running without oil, wrong fuel, operation in rain or indoors, or overloading. Your return video is required.
• If a reported rental problem is not resolved within 2 hours of the report (marked Fixed or Swapped unit by the owner and not disputed by the renter), the renter is eligible for a full refund of all booking amounts paid, and the owner earns nothing on that booking. Spare Watts reviews and issues the refund; refunds are not automatic.
• Before any damage charge to your card you will be emailed the evidence and given 48 hours to respond with your own photos and explanation on your booking page.
• Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup for a full refund of all amounts paid. At 24 hours or less before pickup, the one-day rental amount (the half-day rental amount for half-day bookings) and its associated tax are kept; the rest of the amounts paid are refunded. If the owner cancels, 100% of all amounts paid are refunded. Refunds go to the original payment method.
