FOR GENERATOR OWNERS
YOUR GENERATOR EARNS.
Most generators sit in the garage 360 days a year. List yours on Spare Watts and earn 80% of the daily rate every time it rents. We handle booking, ID checks, payment, the damage waiver and late charges — automatically.
Founding owners
The first 10 owners to go live in each launch city keep 80% of rental revenue. Your first unit’s county determines your city.

How it works
- Sign up with your email, then set up payouts with Stripe (identity, bank and tax forms).
- Pick your model from our catalog, add the serial number and purchase year, then capture seven photos and a 30–90 second how-to video.
- Your listing goes live automatically once everything checks out — no waiting on approval.
- Hand off with timestamped photos, check it back in, and your share is paid 48 hours after return.
Deliver it yourself and keep 100% of the delivery fee. Your street address stays private until a renter has paid. New owners can list 2 units until 3 rentals complete with no damage claims.
Start listingFounding Owner terms
Founding Owner: 80% of rental revenue for as long as you keep at least one unit active on Spare Watts; ends after 12 months with no active unit or for fraud.
Owner support terms
If a reported rental problem is not resolved within 2 hours of the report (marked Fixed or Swapped unit by the owner and not disputed by the renter), the renter is eligible for a full refund of all booking amounts paid, and the owner earns nothing on that booking. Spare Watts reviews and issues the refund; refunds are not automatic.
Respond promptly to booking messages and reported problems. Mark Fixed, Swapped unit, or Can’t fix from your dashboard. Owner contact is shared privately from 2 hours before pickup until 2 hours after scheduled return.
Protection Pool
Every rental pays a mandatory damage waiver into the Spare Watts Protection Pool, which pays owners for covered damage.
- Covered: accidental damage, theft (paid by the pool, then we pursue the renter), and misuse or units not returned (the renter is charged first; the pool pays if that charge fails).
- Not covered: engine/motor failure from normal use, wear items (pull cord, carburetor, spark plug, battery, tires), pre-existing damage, and lost rental income. If the renter’s return video shows the unit running normally, an engine or fuel claim is the owner’s responsibility.
- To claim: complete live check-out photos before pickup and check-in photos within 4 hours of the renter’s return, then file within 48 hours of the return and before payout. Include a description and live claim photos; a repair quote or receipt over $100; the purchase receipt for total-loss claims over $500; a third-party shop diagnosis for misuse; and a police report number within 24 hours for theft. Your payout is held while a claim is open.
- How much: current value is your purchase price minus 20% per year of age, never below 40%. Repairs under 60% of current value are paid in full (parts, labor and parts shipping; self-repair labor at $40/hr, max 2 hours). At 60% or more it’s a total loss: we pay the current value, you keep the unit, and the listing is archived. Accidental claims under $250 that pass every check are approved automatically.
- Limits: 2 paid claims per unit per 12 months; a third pauses the unit for review.
- Fraud: Fraudulent claims result in clawback of all payouts and removal from Spare Watts.
